Bladder Cancer's link to Actos
Pioglitazone or most commonly known as Actos has been raising some concerns with its use because of a recent study has shown that using Actos for more than a year increases the risk of patients in developing bladder cancer. This pill has been very appealing to most patients because it would only taken once a day and also enhances the effect of other diabetes drugs. Actos is 43 percent lower in acquiring heart attack than its rival Avandia, which is also a leading Type 2 Diabetes medication. Although with the adverse effect of Actos now slowly surfacing, the FDA is still reviewing the drug for further analysis and better understanding of its side effects.
Consult your doctor if you are experiencing any of the three symptoms: painful urination, bloody urine and pain in the lower abdomen or back. These three are the symptoms that patients need to consult their doctor right away especially if they have been taking Actos for a long time. Filing a case was the solution that some of the patients resorted to. With the increasing number of cases, the FDA is carefully observing the effects of long term usage of Actos. Most of the patients that are still taking the drug up until now are unaware of its possible risks. There are still a good number of Actos users that are not aware of its possible effects. There is a 40 percent chance of getting bladder cancer if you have used Actos for more than a year with fatality in some cases.
People who have experienced or are experiencing bladder cancer are now filing Actos lawsuits against the manufacturer Takeda Pharmaceuticals. Sales of the drug have already been ceased by Takeda Pharmaceuticals in France and Germany. The increasing awareness of the public is due to the efforts of the FDA to regulate the use of the drug and also because of patients that have filed a case against the pharmaceutical company that has been increasing in numbers.
